Prof. Mario Hossen is a violinist, soloist, and conductor. He is a world-renowned interpreter and expert on the works of Niccolò Paganini. His repertoire is rich and stylistically diverse, аnd it includes works from the Italian and German Baroque to contemporary classical music, tango, and jazz. Mr. Hossen has appeared as soloist of major orchestras, such as the London Philharmonic Orchestra, Tchaikovsky Symphony Orchestra of Radio Moskow, the Wiener Symphoniker, the Academy of St. Martin in the Fields, the English Chamber Orchestra, the Bulgarian National Radio Symphony Orchestra, Bruckner Orchester Linz, I Solisti Veneti, the Wiener Akademie and the Sofia Philharmonic.
Mr. Hossen was born in Plovdiv. At the age of 8, he made his professional debut as soloist of the Plovdiv Philharmonic. Mr. Hossen received his music education in Sofia, Vienna, and Paris. His teachers have included Darina Dankova, Prof. Michael Frischenschlager (student of Yehudi Menuhin) and Prof. Gerard Poulet (student of Henryk Szeryng).
Mr. Hossen has released 22 albums for Italian record label Dynamic and for Doron Music in Switzerland. His discography includes the complete Paganini string quartets, the complete violin and piano sonatas by Beethoven, Bach, and Handel, the violin concertos by Paganini, Bruch, Mendelssohn, and Brahms, as well as world premiere recordings of unpublished works by Paganini, Mozart, Tartini, Rolla, Mercadante, and Kreisler. Composers who have dedicated works to him include Rainer Bischoff, Gheorghi Arnaoudov, Walter Behr, Thomas Marco, Alessandro Solbiati and François-Pierre Descamps.
Mr. Hossen is founder of the Paganini Ensemble Wien and also serves as Artistic Director of the Orpheus International Music Academy and Festival held annually in Vienna. He also works as editor and researcher of Paganini’s complete works for violin and orchestra for one of the oldest music publishing houses in the world, Doblinger Musikverlag Vienna.
Mr. Hossen has been awarded numerous prestigious prizes, including the City of Sofia Music Prize and the Golden Quill Award. He is also an artist of Vienna-based instrument manufacturers Thomastik Infeld. He plays on a 1749 Giovanni Battista Guadagnini violin, given to him on loan by the Austrian National Bank. Mr. Hossen is soloist and conductor of the Vienna Chamber Orchestra. He serves as the Artistic Director of the Varna Summer International Music Festival.
