Pavel Vernikov was born in Odessa, where he graduated from the Stolyarski Music School. He studied with David Oistrach and Semyon Snitkovsky in Moscow. He is a winner at the Munich International Competition and was also awarded the Vittorio Gui Grand Prix in Florence.

For twenty years, Mr. Vernikov has performed extensively as soloist, in a duo and with the Tchaikovsky Trio, playing in some the most prestigious concert halls in America and Europe, including Concertgebouw in Amsterdam, Carnegie Hall in New York, Kennedy Center in Washington, Wigmore Hall in London, Salle Gaveau in Paris, Accademia S. Cecilia in Rome, and La Scala in Milan. He has collaborated with artists of the highest caliber, including S. Richter, C. Zimerman, J. Galway, C. Ivaldi, A. Meunier, P. Gallois, M. Tipo, N. Gutman, O. Kagan, Y. Bashmet, E. Virsaladze and A. Pay.

Founder of the Russian Academy for Professional Musicians in Portogruaro, Mr. Vernikov has taught and has held master classes in Italy, France, Finland, Spain (Escuela Superior de Música Reina Sofía in Madrid), Israel (Rubin Academy in Tel Aviv), and Germany (Kronberg Academy). He has been a competition jury member in a number of international competitions, including those in the names of Joseph Szigeti, Fritz Kreisler, and Vittorio Gui, the ARD in Munich, Sendai in Japan, Ilona Fehér in Budapest, the Pablo Sarasate, and the Henryk Wieniawski competitions. Mr. Vernikov has recorded for such labels as RCA, Ondine, and Dynamic.

As a pedagogue, Mr. Vernikov has taught at the National Conservatoire of Music and Dance in Lyon. He currently serves as professor at the highly respected Vienna Music University and at the Lausanne School of Music. Many of his students are renowned musicians, such as Massimo Quarta (First prize winner at the Premio Paganini International Violin Competition, Genova), Fumiaki Miura (First prize winner at the Joseph Joachim International Violin Competition in Hanover), Lorenza Borrani (Director of the Chamber Orchestra of Europe), Fanny Clamagirand (First prize winner at the Fritz Kreisler International Violin Competition, Vienna and First prize winner at the Monte Carlo International Violin Competition), Miki Kobayashi (Second prize winner at the Henryk Wieniawski International Competition). In 2013, Mr. Vernikov was appointed Artistic Director of the Sion Festival in Switzerland.

He plays a Giovanni Battista Guadagnini violin from 1747, on loan from the Fondazione Pro Canale in Milan.
